Detention Decisions: Implementation Rationales of the Bureaucratic Use of Immigration Detention in Swiss Cantons

This article analyzes the coexisting meanings, interpretations and functions underlying varying uses of immigration detention in Swiss cantons. The authors argue that cantonal bureaucracies decide on administrative according to different intertwined implementation rationales, revealing reasonings which shape its practice. highlights significant variation subnational policies practices with regards within a single federal country, depending these rationales contexts. discretionary same legal norms leads various policies, resulting numbers profiles persons detained.
